A couple of hairdressers will be Wakefield’s first same-sex couple to marry.

Phillip Dawson, 36, and Joseph Stanger, 33, of Joseph Bespoke Hairdressing will tie the knot at the end of the month after the introduction of the equal marriage bill.

Salon owner Mr Stanger, said: “It will be nice to be properly married. We’re no different to anyone else, we just want to be treated as any other couple.”

The couple met three-years-ago through a mutual friend over social networking site Facebook.

Mr Dawson said: “Ever since our first date, I knew he was the one.

“We couldn’t stop chatting and we like the same things.

“I can’t wait for us to have the same name.”

The equal marriage bill came into force at midnight on Friday March 28, allowing same-sex couples the right to marry in Britain.
