The family of a boy with an undiagnosed condition are raising thousands of pounds to take him to America for specialist tests.
Brody Land is three -years-old but still wears baby clothes and is just 74 cm tall because of a rare form of dwarfism which has baffled doctors.
His parents Emma and Chris Land, of Horbury Bridge, are desperate for answers after medics at Pinderfields Hospital said they could do no more to diagnose Brody’s condition.
They have organised at fundraising gig next month as they attempt to raise £10,000 to take him to a specialist clinic in the US when he reaches the age of 7.
Mrs Land, 25, said: “Dwarfism is a bigger issue in America and they have more specialist clinics.
“Doctors here have basically told us they have exhausted their expertise and there’s nothing more then can do to diagnose him.”
The couple, of Crosslands Terrace, were first told Brody had Down’s Syndrome, then that he may have a hole in his heart after he was born.
But after tests came back negative, doctors said he had a form of dwarfism, but they could not identify which form.
Mrs Land said Brody was having treatment including physiotherapy and language therapy at Pinderfields.
She said: “He is still very small. He wears clothes for six to nine-month-olds and he is nearly four. But he is progressing well. He is fit and healthy and his speech is really coming on.”
Consultant paediatrician Dr Andrea Nussbaumer, from Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are dedicated to providing the very best possible care for all our patients and we continue to work with a number of specialists in the hope of getting an accurate diagnosis for Brody’s condition.
“In the meantime we are concentrating on working with Brody and his family to ensure that he receives all the care and support he needs.”
There will be soul and Motown music at the fundraiser on Sunday, May 25, at Warehouse 23, on Smyth Street, Wakefield.
Tickets for the event, which will start at 3pm, cost £10.
People and business who can donate items to be auctioned at the event are invited to e-mail Mrs Land at email@example.com
