Long-serving hospital staff were honoured for more than 3,700 years of collective service.

They were thanked for their decades hard work when Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust held its Long Service Awards.

The trust, which runs Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury Hospitals, invited more than 50 staff members to the event.

Among those being honoured were 14 staff members who have worked for the organisation for more than 40 years.

Others, who included consultants, nurses, midwives, health visitors, human resources staff, housekeepers and hospital facilities staff had been with the trust for 25 years.

The staff members are estimated to have cared for millions of patients during their time working for the district’s hospitals.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Pinderfields Hospital, Mid Yorkshire chairman Jules Preston said: “Whether you have been here 25 years or for 40 years, you will have seen so many at this hospital and across the NHS.

“The NHS will always change.

“We have to be in a position to offer excellent services.

“What you have achieved is significant in terms of patient care.”
