Heat was on for thousands of women in Wakefield’s Race For Life

IN scorching heat thousands of women took part in Wakefield’s Race for Life.

More than 2,000 women ran, jogged or walked 5km around Thornes Park, in highest temperatures of the year so far, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

And city born singer and Loose Women presenter Jane McDonald, started the race.

Event Manager Phillipa Sharpe said: “It was an amazing day and everyone really enjoyed it.

“The weather really helped to make it a lovely day and it also meant there were lots of spectators too.”

Organisers hope they can raise more than £160,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The race, which takes place in cities across the country, first started in 1994 and has raised £457 million nationally for the charity.
