THE HEPWORTH is doing the North proud in a national competition to find the UK’s best gallery or museum.

The gallery, which opened on Wakefield’s waterfront in May last year, is one of just 10 museums and galleries listed this week to battle for the Art Fund Prize Museum of the Year title.

It is the only entry from the North of England and will win £100,000 in funding if the public backs it over other attractions in Edinburgh and Bristol.

Gallery director Simon Wallis said: “We are delighted to be included in the list of museums for this prestigious award, which recognises The Hepworth Wakefield as one of the UK’s top ten museums and galleries.”

People have been invited to tell judges in 100 words why it deserves to win the prize.
