A city centre hotel, which has been closed for more than a year, will reopen as a Holiday Inn Express.
The Chasley Hotel, on Queen Street, will be converted into a 69-bedroom hotel by the company and is expected to reopen later this year.
Its owners, Cairn Hotel Group, announced last year that the hotel would be refurbished, along with three other hotels owned by the group.
The works are part of a deal with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), which runs Holiday Inn Express sites across the country.
A spokeswoman for IHG said: “The Chasley Hotel will be converted into a Holiday Inn Express and named Holiday Inn Express Wakefield.
“It will have 69 standard rooms and is due to open towards the end of this year.”
She added the exact date was yet to be confirmed but work was currently underway at the site.
Cairn said last year it expected to create 200 jobs across the four sites as part of the refurbishment project.
It said at the time: “We are undertaking refurbishment work at four of our properties to ensure they met IHG’s requirements.”
