Some families spent Mother’s Day running the 10k route from Thornes Park to Horbury , and back again, as part of the Wakefield Hospice city road race.

The event saw its oldest competitor Jack Parker, 81, of Notton, take part.

Children as young as two years old then ran a 1K fun run around Clarence Park.

First across the finish line for the 10k event was Mark Warmby from Holmfirth.

And the first woman to make it back was Horbury High School PE teacher Helen Singleton of Ossett.
