Family and friends of a talented young footballer who was killed five years ago will celebrate his life tomorrow.
Stanley United player Lee Wilby was only 23 when his car was hit by an unlicensed driver on November 9, 2008.
To mark the anniversary of his death, a memorial football match and race night has been organised to raise money for the ambulance service.
His mum, Karen Wilkinson, 49, of Wrenthorpe Road said: “We put on a night to mark the first anniversary and at the time I said I’d do another one to mark five years.
“We aim to raise as much money as possible for the ambulance service because it is such a good cause.”
She thanked everyone who had helped to organise the event and to Xamax and Mitre Pro Star who have supplied the football kits.
The match will take place at Stanley Rodillian Rugby Union Football Club, off Lee Moor Road, at 2pm.
Afterwards there will be a race night at Bar Stanley, on Lee Moor Road.
