Jane Tomlinson’s Yorkshire Swimming Festival at Pugneys has been postponed due to safety concerns.
Organisers have called off Sunday’s fundraising event after weather forecasters predicted heavy rain and strong wind.
Sara Birkinshaw, event director, said: “The safety of our participants is absolutely our number one concern. The conditions predicted for Sunday would make swimming conditions extremely challenging and we feel it would be irresponsible to go ahead.
“We would rather have to disappoint people rather than put them at risk. We are really sorry to have to take this decision but I am sure that our participants will understand that their safety has to come first.”
The Yorkshire Swimming Festival will now take place on Sunday, September 1.
Swimmers from across the region were set to brave the waters at Pugneys Country Park to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal in the third annual Express backed event.
Fundraiser Jane Tomlinson inspired thousands of people after she raised more than £1.85m for charity by completing gruelling challenges despite suffering from terminal cancer.
