FUNDRAISERS are hoping to raise money for old rope when they ‘leap’ from the city’s tallest building.

Next Saturday, May 26, 30 brave volunteers will abseil 200 feet down Wakefield Cathedral’s tower to raise £5,000 for a regeneration project.

Terry Rigg, community fundraiser for the cathedral, said: “Lots of people have rallied together and hopefully it will raise lots of money.”

The event will raise cash for Project 2013 – a £5m plan to transform the cathedral in time for its 125th birthday next year.

Mark Bradley, Express editor, is one of the people that will be taking part.

He said: “This is a great opportunity to support a great cause and I hope we can raise a lot of money for the cathedral regeneration project.”

The abseil starts at 9.30am and will be overseen by the Territorial Army.
