TV cameras are set to roll in Cross Square today.
It has been chosen as a location for Kay Mellor’s latest production, In The Club.
The Wakefield Express understands Mocca Moocho, the old Sony Centre and Thai on the Square have all been chosen to provide the back drop for the BBC One drama.
During filming Mocca Moocho will be closed for the day but will still be used as a cafe in the programme.
The former Sony Centre will become a bank and the entrance to Thai on the Square will be mocked up as a cash machine.
The six-part drama focuses on the fates of a group of couples in the same parenting class. It is set to air in the autumn.
Mocca Moocho co-owner Margaret Blackshaw added: “It’s an honour for the city and we are very excited.”
Husband and co-owner Jamie Blackshaw said he and his wife were approached a couple of months ago by the production team.
He added: “Kay Mellor came in the other week, she was lovely, very polite. There were also about 18 of the production team. Her daughter Gaynor Faye was there too.”
Mr Blackshaw said the producers were looking for an independent coffee shop ambience and some of the staff may feature as extras.
He hopes being seen on TV will also boost his business, adding: “I’m hoping it will stimulate interest both on the day and then when the show goes out. People may see it on TV and it may draw them to us.”
