The Voice UK’s Sophie May Williams is back home andbusy writing her own songs for upcoming gigs.

Sophie, 17, who was told to sing covers on the hit BBC show, said: “I’ve been writing lots of songs since I got back from London.

“They’ve got an Amy Winehouse, retro and jazzy vibe to them. I’m going to record music videos to go on YouTube next week.”

The singer said she missed being on the show but she is enjoying seeing friends and family in Wakefield and her home village of Wrenthorpe.

She said: “It’s just back to normal now. People only recognise me if I have my lipstick on.”

She has also returned to her studies at Outwood Grange Academy.

She said: “I went to see the headteacher and we’re talking about organising gigs at all the Outwood schools.

“I am also planning to perform at Trinity Walk and Harry’s Bar next month.”

Sophie made it through to the semi-finals as one of Will.i.am’s team.

She said: “I’m looking forward to writing and gigging and seeing where it takes me.”

Sophie returned to London’s BBC studios on Saturday night to watch the live final of The Voice in which fellow Team Will contestant Jermain Jackman won the show.

She said: “It was good to be back. I was so pleased that Jermain won, he really deserves it and he’s like a brother to me.”

Known as the “singing politician”, winner Jermain Jackman, 18, had been supported on twitter by Outwood MP Ed Balls.

Ed tweeted: “Huge congratulations to @JermainJackman - first heard him sing live 5 years ago at the Hackney Empire - what a star! #TheVoiceUK.”

But it’s not the end for Sophie who is set to work with international producer Will.i.am.

She said: “It’s really cool he wants to work with me.

“It was good to catch up with him at the after-party on Saturday night.”
