The Bishop of Wakefield will mark his 10th anniversary this weekend with a special service at Wakefield Cathedral.
And, to mark the anniversary, and also Hope 2014, the Christian churches’ year of mission, every church will get £100 to help kick start a community initiative.
Churches can decide for themselves how they use the money, but it is has to be used for a community project that will help as many people of all ages as possible.
All the events or projects will be recorded in pictures for everyone to share at a special Hope 2014 event next year.
The Bishop of Wakefield, The Rt Rev Stephen Platten, who is set to retire next year, said: “I want to encourage each church to look outward into their communities and use this money to provide something that will touch and connect with those around them for some time to come.”
Each church will have make an application explaining how their £100 will be spent in each community before they receive the money.
The 10th anniversary celebration is at 4pm today (Sunday) in Wakefield Cathedral.
