Carr Lodge Mansion could be turned into flats

AK Planning, on behalf of applicant Azhar Hussain, has submitted an application to Wakefield Council, requesting consent to turn the grade-II listed mansion in Horbury’s Carr Lodge Park, into nine apartments.

There would be eight two-bedroom flats and one-three bedroom flat.

The mansion was built between 1770 and 1775 and was last used as offices.

Planning permission and listed building consent has recently been granted for the building to be converted into one home.

But planning documents submitted to the council said: “Use as a single dwelling is ideal, however, it has proven impractical given the size and location of the building.”

The documents continue: “The proposals will bring into use this important listed building. We have taken a reasonable approach in adapting the existing building without damaging any features of significance.

“Indeed as part of the proposals, some features will be restored.”
