Jobs are at risk at clothing retailer Republic after the company called in the administrators.
The company’s store at Wakefield Trinity Walk shopping centre is one of 121 UK-wide which could close after slump in sales.
Republic, which employs 2,500 people, today appointed administrators from Ernst and Young who have already made 150 staff at the company’s Leeds head office redundant.
Stores will remain open for business as the administrators seek a buyer for the business.
Joint administrator Hunter Kelly said: “Republic suffered poor trading results in the Autumn, and whilst sales picked up in December there has been a sudden and rapid decline in sales in late January.
“The impact on cash flows has resulted in the business being unable to continue to operate outside of an insolvency process.
“Unfortunately, it has been necessary to make 150 employees at the head office in Leeds redundant.”
