The festive season brought more than Christmas presents for families who celebrated the arrival of newborn babies.

New parents Sara Moorby, 24, and Andy Sinar, 27, celebrated after baby Elijah Sinar was born on Christmas day at Pinderfields Hospital, weighting 8lbs 1oz.

They arrived in hospital at 3am on Christmas morning, and Elijah was born at 6am.

Miss Moorby, 24, of Pretoria Street, Portobello, said: “He is fine and is just sleeping all the time at the moment.

“It was a bit of a shock because he was four days overdue.

“He was supposed to come on the 21st, but decided to come on his own in the end.”

Baby Jake Davies was an extra festive treat for South Kirkby couple Marie and Paula Davies when he was born on Christmas Day.

Marie, 31, went into labour on Christmas Eve and gave birth at 7.31am at Pinderfields Hospital.

The new family spent the day in hospital, before being allowed home late on Christmas Day.

They had a belated Christmas dinner on Boxing Day evening and have been enjoying showing off their new arrival to their friends and family.

Jake, who weighed in at 7lbs 5oz, is the first child for Marie, and Paula, 35, of Ings Walk.

And Knottingley couple Sharon and Ben Phillips had an extra reason to celebrate when their daughter Romaya Anwen was born at 4.55am on Christmas Day.

Baby Romaya, who weighed in at 9lbs 7ozs, joins sister Amelia.

After being discharged from Pinderfields at lunchtime on Christmas Day, Mr Phillips, 31, cooked Christmas dinner for the new family that evening.

He said: “She made a joke the night before [Christmas Eve] saying what if we ended up having the baby on Christmas Day.

“We went to bed and then half an hour later she started getting pains.”

He said Mrs Phillips, 32, and baby Romaya were doing well and the couple had been showing off their new arrival.

Kaitlyn McGarthwaite-Swift, 23, and her husband Grant Swift were also celebrating after twin girls Willow Annabelle and Meadow Mae were born at Pinderfields Hospital on New Year’s Day.

Baby Willow Annabelle arrived at 10.20pm, weighing 5lb 12oz, and Meadow Mae was born at 10.21pm, weighing 5lb 9 oz.

The couple, of Kingsway Close, Ossett, and their girls were still in hospital yesterday.
