A FINAL decision on plans to build a new community stadium and business park has been delayed.
In June, secretary of state for communities and local government, Eric Pickles, gave the provisional go-ahead for a £19m stadium and 100-acre business park to be built on Newmarket Lane, near Stanley.
It will provide a new home for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats by the start of 2015, helping the club to maintain its Super League status.
But Mr Pickles only approved the plans by Yorkcourt Properties if certain planning conditions were met.
This included a section 106 planning obligation in relation to the construction of the stadium and traffic. Mr Pickles was expected to give his final decision today.
A spokesman for the department of communities and local government said: “The preferred decision date was today, but that is not fixed.
“We have not received the section 106 agreement from the applicant.
“We have been told that they are going to be sending that very soon.
“At the moment we do not have a new date.”
The plans were called in by the government as it was on allocated Green Belt land.
The site will also include warehouses, a multi-use games area, restaurant and 120-bed hotel and is expected to create 2,000 jobs and bring in an extra £130m to the city’s economy.
