Fly-tipping fine

A WOMAN from South Elmsall was fined £400 after waste was found dumped illegally in the town.

She was ordered to pay more than £400 in fines and costs after pleading guilty to paying a bogus waste carrier to take away her rubbish.

Environment officers found the waste dumped on Station Road.

Coun Maureen Cummings, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for the environment, said people had to check waste carriers were genuine.

She said: “An individual has a duty of care to ensure their waste is disposed of correctly and if their waste gets dumped illegally we have the power to prosecute them.

“Fly-tipping is a blight on the local environment and our communities and we will continue to tackling this head-on.”

Others from the Wakefield area got prison sentences and community orders for fly-tipping in the council’s recent clampdown.
