Former nightclub to become centre for mental health

An NHS trust is transforming the former Quest nightclub in the city centre into a mental health treatment centre.

More than 200 NHS staff will move into the Drury Lane Health and Wellbeing Centre after it opens in the autumn.

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is turning the building into a centre to house different services currently spread out across the district.

Services to be located there include the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), along with staff working with elderly and disabled people.

Sean Raynor, the NHS trust’s district service director for Wakefield and Barnsley, said: “Our new, purpose-built centre will benefit staff and service users in Wakefield.

“By bringing services together they will be more joined up and allow us to put local people first and in the centre of all we do.

“More than 200 members of staff will be coming together from a number of sites in the new hub.

“Co-location of teams will have benefits for both staff and service users

“I would like to thank all involved in the project, as well as those members of staff making the move, to ensuring the success of this development.”

Trust staff were asked to come up with a name for the new centre.

The winning suggestion was made by Andrea Lyons, who works in the organisation’s dietetic team.

The trust has leased the former Quest building from Barnsley-based Quest Property.

The new centre is expected to open to service users in October.
