Former The Voice star Frances Wood is backing her neighbour to go far in the competition.

Fellow Wrenthorpe singer Sophie May Williams won through to the next round of the BBC One show last night (Saturday).

The 17-year-old, who only lives a few streets away from Frances, will be coached by rapper Will-i-am after he was the only judge to spin his chair around and send her through to the next stage.

The Black Eyed Peas singer also coached Frances when she was in the competition two years ago, helping her reach the quarter finals.

The two girls also both studied at Outwood Grange Academy.

Frances, 20, of Barnes Avenue, said: “I will definitely follow her and I hope she does well. It is great for Wakefield.

“My advice would be for her to enjoy herself. She needs to take it seriously, but not too much. She only has this one chance and needs to make sure she is happy with the song choices and what she wears.

“I am proud of my time on the show and it is a good memory and helped me so much.

“When I watch the show I remember how I felt. You can tell by looking at the contestants whether they are nervous and you can usually tell whether the judges will turn around or not.”

Sophie May, of The Orchard, impressed Will-i-am with her version of Cyndi Lauper’s classic Time After Time.

She was cheered on in the studio by mum Debbie and sister Laura, 15.

The result means Sophie May will be one of 12 contestants on Team Will ready to compete in The Battle rounds.
