A GAY man was knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack because of his sexuality.
The 21-year-old student from Ossett had to be taken to Pinderfields Hospital after the attack, during early hours of Sunday.
Detectives are now searching through CCTV to try to trace three suspects.
The man, who was too frightened to be named, said: "All I can think is that they picked on me because I am gay.
"It's all a bit of a blur, all I remember is being laid out on the floor and waiting for the ambulance to arrive."
The incident happened at about 3.50am on Sunday, at the Dallas takeaway after a night out at the Odyssey bar on Kirkgate.
Three men verbally abused the victim before one of the attackers knocked him unconscious. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his head injury.
The main suspect is about 6ft 2ins, with blonde and ginger shoulder-length hair, stubble and of slim build.
He is believed to be in his mid-20s and was wearing dark jeans and a white top which was ripped by a witness who tried to stop him making off.
The second suspect was about 5ft 6ins, slim with dark hair and smartly dressed.
The third suspect was of average build with short hair. The men ran off in the direction of Lower Kirkgate.
