A MAN has been rescued after he fell into his living room after the first floor of his house collapsed.

The man, who is in his mid 50s, was upstairs when his bedroom floor gave way last night.

Firefighters rescued him from the debris of his home on Newland Street, Agbrigg, this morning. (Wednesday)

Chris Kirby, station manager at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue headquarters, said: “This gentleman appears to have been a hoarder.

“The weight of the things he has stored in his bedroom have caused the first floor to collapse.

“Fortunately he fell with the floor so he didn’t suffer any crush injuries, the only thing he was suffering from was hypothermia.

“We suspect he had been there for some time before neighbours alerted police this morning.”

Structural engineers assessed other homes in the row of terrace houses and said there were no fears over structural safety.

The man, who is a Wakefield Council employee, is being treated at Pinderfields Hospital for hypothermia.
