Man, 24, killed after car crashes into a tree

A 24-year-old man has died after a crash in Wakefield last night

Officers were called to Flanshaw Way shortly before 9.50pm last night (Tuesday) to a report that a black Skoda Fabia, travelling on Flanshaw Way towards Flanshaw Lane, had been in collision with a tree.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended to assist in removing the two occupants - the driver and a front seat passenger - from the vehicle.

The passenger, a 24-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene with the driver, also a 24-year-old man, taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he is being treated for injuries described as serious but non-life threatening.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the accident.

Sergeant Carl Quinn, of West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “As part of our ongoing enquiries in to this collision, we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or the manner of driving of the vehicle prior to the collision.

“Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101.”
