One person has died and three were taken to hospital following a road traffic collision on Chevet Lane at Notton,
The incident happened at around 11.50pm yesterday. Firefighters from Wakefield attended the scene, where a Seat car carrying four people had collided with a tree.
Watch manager Mick Ferries said it was the worst accident he had been to in his 17 years with the service.
A rear passenger was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, and the driver was taken to the major trauma unit and Leeds General Infirmary after being cut free from the vehicle by fire crews.
Two more passengers were also taken to hospital.
