A pensioner had to be rescued from his overturned car.

The 78-year-old man’s blue Toyota Avenis was on its roof when firefighters were called to Woodside Avenue, Wrenthorpe, at about 5pm on Tuesday.

The firefighters, from Wakefield Station, made a hole through in the boot of the car and pulled the man out.

He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital by paramedics.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at around 5pm. The man’s blue Toyota Avenis had overturned. He was taken to hospital where he was treated for an injury to his hand and later discharged.”
