Rinaldis restaurant was forced to close after a Toyota pick up truck smashed through a window causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Rinaldis restaurant was forced to close after a Toyota pick up truck smashed through a window causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage.

A RESTAURANT owner was left with a huge repair bill after a pick-up truck smashed through his Italian eatery.

Rinaldis Ristorante Italiano, in Sandal, was forced to close after tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused on Monday night.

A black Toyota smashed through a large window at the front of restaurant on Asdale Road at around 11.50pm.

Owner Glyn Margrave said: “Just about every chair and table has been ruined.

“We’ve already made a start having the repairs done and the decorators in but it has put us out of action.”

He hopes the restaurant will be able to re-open by next Friday.

Firefighters were called to the scene to help free another man from the truck after the incident.

Afterwards the car was removed and the restaurant was boarded up.

A man, who did not wish to be named, saw the truck go into the restaurant.

He said: “It’s pretty hard to believe what happened.

“It was like a scene out of Miami Vice.”

Two men, aged 38 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol.

They have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Rinaldis customers are advised to call 01924 256711 or log on www.rinaldis-restaurant.co.uk
