Play sport for free in Wakefield next weekend to celebrate Olympic success

Latest news...

Latest news...

SPORT and leisure activities will be free next weekend to celebrate the success of Britain’s Olympians and Paralympians.

People can take part in golf, swimming, squash, canoeing and other sports free of charge at facilities across the district on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23.

Leader of Wakefield Council Coun Peter Box said the offer was in celebration of a successful summer of British sport.

He said: “Let’s make this weekend the platform for some of our young people to be part of Rio 2016, and show our Olympic and Paralympic heroes that their efforts and success have made their mark, heralding a new era of sport and physical activity in Wakefield.”

The free offer applies to casual pay and play activities, is subject to availability and will be on a first come first served basis.

People doing watersports activities at Pugneys can park for free by taking a ticket at reception.

Full details will be available on www.wakefield.gov.uk from Friday.
