Women and girls can now sign up for this year’s Race for Life at Thornes Park.
Entries are now open for the 5k event, as well as a new 10k run.
The women-only events, which take place across the country, raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Last year, 2,000 women took part in the Wakefield event, raising £100,000.
This year’s Thornes Park run is looking for 2,500 women to help raise more than £130,000.
The Race for Life, which is run in partnership with Tesco, raises millions of pounds every year to help defeat cancer by funding life-saving research. Cancer Research UK receives no government funding.
Sarah Threadgall, Cancer Research UK’s Wakefield events manager, said: “We’re calling on Wakefield’s mighty mums, gutsy grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.
“We know how committed Wakefield women can be when they really make up their minds to do something. We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for life-saving research.
“Race for Life is not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance if they prefer.”
To sign up for the event, which takes place on Sunday, June 1, visit www.raceforlife.org or call 0845 600 6050.
