Runners hit the road for Wakefield 10k

It was the 21st annual road race and by far the largest Wakefield 10K to date, raising more than £55,000 for Wakefield Hospice.

One of those running the race was 69-year-old Ian Tippin who has run 115 marathons.

He said: “This is just a warm-up in my home city. I’m running another marathon next week.”

It was a family affair too with a 1k Mini Run taking place as well as family groups all running the race.

Runner Lee Furness who ran with his son Oscar and wife Panni Loh said: “It has been a fantastic day, with people supporting us all along the way.

“We’ve loved it and will be definitely back next year.”

Wakefield Hospice has been overwhelmed by the response to the 10k and 1k Mini Run which had even more runners to sign up on the day.

Event Organiser Holli Kellett said: “We are over the moon with the number of people who have entered in 2016. The money each and every one of these runners have raised will make a difference to a patient and their family here at Wakefield Hospice.

For every £20 raised in sponsorship we are able to fund one hour of care – making a huge difference to someone living with an end of life diagnosis.”
