Seven weeks of delays for motorists

Upgrade work by Northern Gas Networks in the town’s Springfields area will start on Monday, July 18.

There will be temporary traffic lights on Cow Lane from Monday, July 25 until Monday, August 1, during the £120,000 scheme to replace 360m of metal piping with plastic gas mains.

Garden Lane will be closed at the junction of Cow Lane from Monday, August 22, until Sunday, September 4, with a diversion in place.

Engineers will be working between 8am and 5pm during the seven-week period.

Paul Gordon, construction services area manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have been working closely with Wakefield Council to carefully plan these works in order to minimise disruption to customers.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during the scheme, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting these works completed as quickly as possible.”

A public meeting has also been called for people who have questions about the project.

It will be held on Wednesday, June 29, from 4.30pm-6pm at Knottingley Elim Pentecostal Church on Tithe Barn Road.
