Bursts of rain didn’t stop thousands of people enjoying this year’s Emley Show.

Set on the moor beneath the mast, the agricultural event attracted hundreds of entries from across the country in its traditional livestock classes and competitions.

Animals that were exhibited ranged from rabbits and hamsters to horses and cattle.

There were classes in dry stone-walling, show jumping, wood carving, horticulture, craft, cookery and photography. Visitors were impressed with stunt performances from daring bike squad, Savage Skills, and a fiery showcase by the Essex Dog Display Team.

Crowds also gathered to see birds of prey displays, Emley Band, a Punch and Judy show and a vintage tractor parade.

Marketing officer, Richard Hartley, said: “People came out in their thousands despite the weather forecasts. We were quite lucky in the end, aside from a shower, the rest of the forecast rain and storms held off.

“The show went very well again this year, we have had lots of positive feedback from people who came out to support their local show.

“Many people have said they were impressed with the horse show and that the events in the main ring were very entertaining.

“It’s been a tough year at times but everyone on the committee put in huge amounts of work and pulled out an absolutely great show.”

Visitors took to social media to praise event organisers of the 121st annual show.

Anne Untisz wrote on Facebook: “Fab day judging show jumping at Emley thanks for inviting me, fantastic organisation you should be proud of yourselves! A big thank you to all the competitors, well done. See you next year.”

Sarah Cockerham wrote: “Awesome show today!! Very well organised and lovely people.”

And Lilith Raven added: “We loved it seeing all the animals, so many types of food and some great shows/displays and the kids loved the fairground rides.”

Sarah Fozzard Tweeted: “I love a local show, catching up with old friends and people enjoying a day out despite the weather! @Emley_Show.
