A teenager has died after the car she was driving veered off a Pontefract road in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called shortly after 2.30am to a report from a member of the public of an upturned car in a stream off Skinner Lane.
A 19-year-old woman from the Leeds area, the sole occupant of the white Volkswagen Polo car, was taken to Pinderfields Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
Det Sgt Carole Greaves, of the police Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “From initial enquiries there is nothing to indicate that any other vehicle was involved.
“The driver has been identified as a 19-year-old woman from the Leeds area and her immediate family have been notified.
“A young woman has lost her life and we would urge anyone who has any information which could aid our enquiries to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”
