4 October 2012 ...... Rt Worshipful Mayor of Wakefield Coun Elaine Blezard CORRECT with the chair returned to Pontefract Town Hall after being kept in storage since 1974

THE countdown to Christmas will officially begin when the city’s festive lights will be switched on.

The Mayor of Wakefield, Coun Elaine Blezard, pictured, will do the honours on Thursday.

The celebrations will begin at 5.30pm when Wakefield Girl Guides will lead a lantern parade from the Cathedral around the city centre.

Afterwards there will be carol singing before Coun Blezard pushes the button to light up the city centre at around 6pm.
