A record number of people are expected to vote for community champions as part of this year’s Love Where You Live awards.
The annual ceremony, organised by Wakefield and District Housing, recognises the determination and effort of hard-working groups.
A panel of judges have whittled down the nominees for eight categories, but it is now up to the public to decide the winners.
The number of votes received so far is already close to smashing last year’s 3,000 total.
Resident involvement manager Sarah Chatham said: “The response we have had to the launch of the 2013 awards has been incredible and really shows how important the public think it is to recognise the invaluable work of residents.
“Voting is extremely close, particularly in the Working with Young People and Environmental Champion categories, and I’d encourage people to keep voting because it looks like just a handful of votes could separate the winners.”
Votes need to be made before Friday, October 25.
The winners will be announced in November.
