Village post office to close

Flockton.

Flockton.

A village post office will close when the sub postmaster retires later this year.

Donald Shaw will step down from Flockton Post Office on Friday, March 28.

It means the premises, on Barnsley Road, Flockton, will no longer be used as a post office.

A search is now on to find a new building and somebody else to run the service.

Post Office field change advisor Allison Wallace said: “The premises in which Flockton Post Office currently operates will be withdrawn from post office use from March 28.

“We are working hard to find a permanent location for the post office and we hope to be able to provide further information on a proposed new location soon.

“We know how important Post Office services are to people in the area and we are committed to restoring a service to the local community. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their understanding.”

Nearby branches will be available for customers, including ones on Church Street, Emley, Bedford Avenue, Grange Moor, Cross Road, Middlestown, and Edge Lane, Thornhill Edge.

Royal Mail’s delivery operations at Flockton will be transferred to Wakefield Delivery Office from Monday, February 3.

Customers will have to collect parcels from Grange Moor Post Office.
