Wakefield centre joins Kick Out The Can paint recycling scheme

The Kick Out The Can initiative lets people take up to ten containers of paint along to the Thornes Lane centre for recycling.

Donations are already pouring in but there is still time for anyone who wants to get rid of their surplus paint.

The paint is re-processed by social enterprise company Nimtech and then donated to community projects.

The scheme, which is in its fourth year, has collected more than 30,000 thousand tins of unwanted paint across the UK since its launch.

Mark Lloyd, sustainability manager for Crown Decorating Centres, said: “Kick Out The Can is growing in popularity every year and we’re delighted that people are taking the opportunity to do some good for the environment by recycling their unwanted paint.

“Such is its appeal that we’ve extended the scheme into a third week this year, and to thank people for helping make it such a success everyone who brings in their unwanted paint receives a 20 per cent discount voucher which they can use in-store until the end of the year.”

Paint must be in the original container with the lid securely attached and no foreign objects or substances in the cans. Aerosols and rusty cans cannot be accepted.

The initiative finishes on April 18.
