A well-known TV presenter will take part in Race for Life - in memory of a friend who died from cancer two months ago.
Christine Talbot will be running in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event in Thornes Park this Sunday.
The anchorwoman for ITV’s regional news programme Calendar will join a group of friends and take part in the fundraising 5km walk, jog or run.
Christine’s group is called Diane’s Mates – named in honour of mother-of-three Diane Dearlove who died of aggressive breast cancer on March 26 at the city’s hospice.
The two women got to know each other through a mutual friend after Christine was diagnosed in January 2012 with a similar type of cancer.
Mother-of-one Christine said: “Diane had been given the news she had breast cancer six months before me.
“Nothing prepares you for the shock you feel when you are told.
“But Diane helped me with support and advice and was so encouraging with her kindness. She took part in Race for Life in 2012 just as we were both finishing treatment and she did it again last year, looking fabulous.”
Diane, 53, of Sandal, was devastated when told in February the cancer had returned and was terminal. She died a few weeks later.
