Council leader Peter Box has this week announced they have received 4.1m funding to build a new link road from the Prince of Wales Colliery to Monkhill.

Work on a new multi-million pound link road to relieve congestion in and around Pontefract will get underway next month.

Wakefield Council has announced contractor North Midland Construction will start work on the 1.5km Northern Link Road on Monday, June 2.

The road is part of a scheme to build more than 900 homes - along with shops and businesses - on the site of the former Prince of Wales Colliery.

It will run as a single carriageway from Park Road to Skinner Lane and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
