A RECORD number of shoppers watched X-Factor finalist Kye Sones switch on the Ridings’ Christmas lights.
The former chimney-sweep performed five songs before turning on the lights on Saturday.
Hundreds of families lined the upper mall to meet the singer, who spent two hours signing autographs.
Vicky Clapham, marketing manager at the Ridings, said: “We knew that Kye would be really popular with the crowd but were still amazed at just how many people turned up.
“He performed a fantastic set and was really lovely with all his fans.
“It was an amazing day and everyone really enjoyed the rest of the festive activities, as well as getting to meet Kye.”
Mr Sones was joined by Santa and his helpers, as well as characters from this year’s Theatre Royal pantomime Cinderella.
There were also performances by youngsters from The Silcoates School Foundation, Methodist Junior and Infants’ school and Wakefield Wildcat Kittens.
