South Kirkby and Moorthorpe council are preparing to host the Yorkshire Day celebrations

Wakefield will celebrate Yorkshire Day next week with events across the district.

Pubs, clubs and shops are all joining in the celebrations .

There will be a Yorkshire day celebration at Yorkshire Sculpture Park at which there will be Yorkshire ice cream, free samples of Yorkshire beer and the restaurant will be serving a God’s Own County themed menu.

In the evening there will be a two course barbecue using the best produce Yorkshire has to offer and Shepley Brass Band providing entertainment.

Trinity Walk is running a Yorkshire Sweet Cafe between 11am and 3pm in Grammar Square.

The Brig at Altofts (formerly Lee Brigg WMC) is also hosting a Yorkshire Day craft fair on Saturday, August 2.

South Kirkby and Moorthorpe will host the official Yorkshire Day 2014 celebrations.

The Outibridge Brass Band will lead a civic procession of 200 dignitaries down Minsthorpe Lane to All Saints Church for a Service. The procession will start at 10.30am.

Mayor of Wakfield, Coun Sandra Pickin, said: “I think it’s fantastic that South Kirkby is hosting the official celebrations.

“It’s a great way for Yorkshire to showcase what we have to offer especially on the back of the Tour de France.”

There will also be welly wanging in Pontefract town centre and music from local bands.

Yorkshire Day is on Friday, August 1.
