£160k drugs farm in Walton shut down by police
Police shut down a cannabis farm in Walton
A CANNABIS farm with a drugs crop worth more than £160,000 was shut down by police.
Officers from the Rural neighbourhood police team (NPT) found 428 plants growing inside a house on Manor Rise in Walton on Sunday.
They acted after a tip-off from a neighbour who reported a strong smell of cannabis.
Sgt Jamie Speight and two other NPT officers forced their way into the house at 2.20pm.
Sgt Speight said: “Every single room upstairs including the loft was packed full of cannabis plants.
“We found one man was hiding in the front bedroom and another two were in the loft.”
They removed all the plants as well as expensive growing equipment including lights and fans.
Officers arrested three Vietnamese men, aged 23, 30, and 27, on suspicion of the production of cannabis.
They were charged and appeared before Wakefield Magistrates’ Court on Monday where they were remanded in custody.
Officers are investigating potential links with other cannabis farms in Bradford and Nottingham.
A 58-year-old man, who is believed to be the owner of the house, has also been arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis.
He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Sgt Speight said: “This operation was a result of officers acting quickly on community intelligence.
“We want to get the message out to people that if they pass on information we will take action.
“If you think someone is dealing drugs on your street or on your estate tell us or call Crimestoppers.
“Or if you think there may be a cannabis farm in your neighbourhood let us know.
“We are committed to serving our community and taking action against criminals causing misery for others.”
