All go for New Year’s Day annual wacky races
Sharlston Soap Box Derby 2012.
DARE devil drivers will race their home made contraptions down a village hill today.
The famous Sharlston Soap Box Derby returns for its annual New Year’s Day event of fun and laughter.
Competitors will steer their go-karts down The Green from 11.30am.
And money raised from the charity event will go into a fund set up to support local sporty children in need of financial help.
Organiser Andy Palmer said: “Last year we presented a cheque to Ashleigh Long who was picked to represent Great Britain in gymnastics. She held her own events to raise money so we helped her on her way.
“Also a cheque later on in the year was presented to Evie Chalkley who was doing an event called “The World Challenge” in Norway - an event similar to The Duke of Edinburgh Award, so again this helped her on her way.
“And a cheque is going to be presented to Sharlston Cricket club to go towards the training of youngsters to become coaches.”
