Architecture never tasted so good
SPAGHETTI and marshmallows are not normally used for building – but that did not stop budding architects in Normanton.
Pupils at Normanton Junior School prepared for a visit from the Institute of Civil Engineers by constructing the tallest towers they could from uncooked pasta and squashy sweets.
And the students with the most impressive tower-building skills were chosen to take part in a masterclass with Lynden Cable, a chartered civil engineer, this week.
Mr Cable helped them put together a replica of the Wembley stadium arch made out of elastic bands and wood.
Deputy headteacher Robert Waft said: “We have done the tower-building project before with pupils but decided to make more of it this year. The children worked very hard and we tried to prompt them as little as possible, but the towers they came up with were very impressive.
“Four children from each class went forward to take part in the big event on Monday. The children all had a fantastic time, and it was something out of the ordinary for them to have a go at.”
