Arriva chief leaves patch in 'good shape'
BIG plans to improve the Arriva bus service in Wakefield have been unveiled by managing director Phil Stone who moves to Arriva North West at the end of the month.
Mr Stone, 46, said internal investment before the end of the year would see seven new single decker buses on the 126 Wakefield to Dewsbury route and 14 double deckers for the 110 Wakefield to Leeds service.
He added that three years ago the company found it difficult to recruit staff, the company struggled to get buses out on time and keep them running, but now costs had been cut, training had improved and staff numbers had increased.
He added that the service had gone from mediocre to the top in Arriva UK.
He added: “The service is a lot more efficient now and there are plans to make further improvements before the end of this year.
“Arriva aim to invest more money in the service in September and October. This will ensure that people are happy in their jobs and customers are also happy.”
Mr Stone will move back to Arriva North West as MD. He was previously the depot’s deputy MD for 15 years before his move to Yorkshire.
