Bopping under the moon in Ossett
Showaddywaddy on the Once In A Lifetime Tour, for competition
A PARTY pop band will have people digging out their old blue suede shoes when a celebratory tour takes them to Ossett next year.
Showaddywaddy became famous in the 1970s for revival songs from the 1950s and 60s and their flamboyant Teddy Boys dress sense.
They also wrote several of their own songs and achieved chart hits with Showaddywaddy, Step Two and Crepes and Drapes.
To celebrate their 40th anniversary, the band will play at Ossett Town Hall in April.
The band’s bass player Rod Deas said he was looking forward to coming back to Yorkshire.
He said: “We’ve done a few gigs in Yorkshire and it’s always great.
“I think it’s just as unbelievable to us that we’re still going after 40 years as it is to everyone else.
“But the phone keeps ringing. As long as people are turning up and we’ve got the energy we’ll keep doing it.”
Mr Deas said the gig in Ossett would include most of the band’s hits.
He said: “The tour will be every weekend for several months and there’s going to be lots of travelling involved, but we’re not thinking too much about that and are just looking forward to it.”
Mr Deas said the band was also looking to produce a live album.
He said: “It’s something we’ve meant to do for years and years and now with digital recording it’s a lot more simple.
“There’s no doubt things have changed a lot since we started out.”
The Ossett gig will take place on Saturday, April 27.
