Businessman in masked armed raid terror

Masked gunmen threatened to kill a businessman, his wife and granddaughter in a terrifying raid at their West Yorkshire home.

The 67-year-old wholesale food importer was struck over the head with a handgun and robbed of 10,000 cash by a masked gang of up to five men.

The gang struck as the man returned from Ramadan prayers at his local mosque.

The grandfather of 14, who is too scared to be named, relived the frightening 45 to 60 minutes he and his family were held prisoners at gunpoint.

He described how the gunman warned: "If you shout I will shoot you," and then threatened to strangle his wife and kill their granddaughter who hid in their beds.

The father of four, who has a wholesale business in Bradford market, had put his car into the garage at the rear of the family's stone detached house on Halifax Road, Dewsbury, when he was surrounded by the robbers on Friday.

As he prepared to close the garage door at about 1am the men suddenly appeared. One pointed a handgun at his head and ordered him to hand over money.

Once inside they pushed him against a washing machine and with the gun pointed at his head began to search every room in the five-bedroom Victorian mansion.

The man's wife and granddaughter awoke and the grandmother pleaded that she had no jewellery to steal. During the search the businessman was

struck on the back of his head with the handgun.

Eventually after the gang had scoured the house, grabbed the cash and stripped a wristwatch from his arm, he told them: "There is no more to take, you have got everything I have, will you please go."

The grandfather said he thought that the gang of robbers, who all wore dark clothing, were made up of African Caribbean and Asian men.
