Charity daffodils set town in bloom

Daffodils planted in memory of local people who died of cancer have sprung up all over town - and look set to raise thousands for charity.

Members of the Rotary Club of Ossett, Wakefield Council and the Friends groups of several Ossett and Horbury parks all did their bit to plant sponsored bulbs last October.

And flowers are now in bloom at Ossett's Illingworth and Green parks, Horbury's Carr Lodge Park, and by roadsides at Owl Lane, the junction 40 motorway roundabout and Horbury Bridge.

Donations were made through schools and shops, and will go to the Marie Curie cancer care charity.

Stephen Scott, president of the Rotary Club of Ossett, said: "It's looking great - we planted thousands and thousands of them and it has made a real difference in each place.

"Everyone has done their bit and it has been a real community effort. We hope it will raise a lot of money."
