Children's wonderful kite day
KIDDY kite designers held on tight as they tested their new colourful creations and tried to fly them to the highest heights.
Youngsters, aged up to 11, from the Butterflies Children’s Centre on Wakefield Road enjoyed a craft and activity day this week.
As well as face-painting and other games, the children made their own kites out of paper, string and coloured tissue paper.
The day was designed for families and around 70 people joined in at the centre which is in the grounds of Newlands Primary School.
Centre childcare leader, Paula Partington, said: “We planned a windy weather activity day, so as well as making kites we also made windmills and paper aeroplanes.
“It was a wonderful day and all the children really enjoyed themselves, even though it did turn out that it wasn’t really windy enough to fly the kites properly.
“But the children took it very seriously and were determined to take the kites home and fly them at some point.”
