'City' set to bloom
FLOWERS will be used to re-create some of the city's landmarks and tourist attractions later this year.
The Town Hall, Nostell Priory, the Wakefield Wildcats stadium, Walton Hall, the prison, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Sandal Castle, the theatre, The Hepworth, the National Coal Mining Museum and the Yorkshire Sculpture park will all be depicted as floral arrangements as part of a flower festival for All Saints.
The Wakefield in Flowers exhibition will be officially opened at Wakefield Cathedral on Friday, October 29, by local MP Mary Creagh.
It will run until Monday, November 1.
Money for the flowers will be raised with the help of a raffle, with prizes ranging from 100 off your shopping bill at Sainsbury's to free membership of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, family pantomime tickets from the Theatre Royal Wakefield and a month's free Greens Gym membership.
Raffle tickets are on sale in the Cathedral bookshop, the Tourist Information Centre and the Cathedral Coffee shop in the Treacy Hall.
