POLICE have stepped up patrols on an estate after yobs were caught jumping on buses and throwing bricks from roofs.

Officers from the Central neighbourhood police team (NPT) arrested a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old in connection with the incident in Eastmoor.

Phil Colbeck, sub-postmaster at Windhill Post Office, has been forced to put barbed wire on his roof to stop teenagers climbing up and causing mayhem.

Bus firm Arriva is working with the police and has passed on CCTV footage captured from their buses.

Nigel Featham, regional managing director, said: “We can confirm that there has been some disruption to bus services in this area due to individuals trying to climb on to bus roofs as well as trying to activate the emergency stop buttons.”

Police are also working with Wakefield and District Housing (WDH).

Mark Trafford, area manager, said: “Where WDH tenants or their families are found to be involved in nuisance and anti-social behaviour activities, we will always look to take positive action, which could lead to them losing their home.”

Insp Richard Close urged people to report problems.

He said: “Anti social behaviour of this kind often goes on without being reported.

“Together with the community we can target areas where anti social behaviour exists. Please don’t suffer, get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
